Prints on Prints on Prints
Ready to Face the Sun

I was debating whether or not to wear this outfit because it is very loud, and I was unsure about the print on print situation, even though that is one of my favorite things to do. However, I decided to whip out the swag and confidence, and throw this outfit together! Initially, I only bought the top, which is somewhat sheer (can’t really tell in the pics). When I was on one of my shopping binges (every weekend), I saw the shorts and although a bit darker than the top, I decided to snag them! I am so happy I did, because I am now obsessed with this combo! Also, as if the two-piece set wasn’t enough, I added more print and fun with my fave Sam Edelman Leopard print booties and Kat Von D lavendar matte lip! This is now my go-to fun summer outfit!

Listen to the song that inspired this outfit!!

Mountain Vibes
How Accessories Can Alter an Outfit

As all of you already know, Mammoth is one of my favorite places to go to get away from the LA madness. The mountains definitely inspired this entire outfit. The hat really brings it all together – it so happens that my mom scored this baby at a leather store in Mammoth. It was marked as $150, but kept coming up on the computer as $4.99… so $4.99 it was! Call that a steal! Once I saw the hat, I knew I had the perfect pieces to go along with it!

The striped top is from Target (currently on sale) – it is one of my faves because it is so light and breezy. The skinny scarf is from Free People – when browsing through their catalogs last Christmas, the model immediately sold me! The ripped skinny jeans are from Old Navy (stretchy rockstar jeans – love them)! The oversized jean jacket belonged to my Grandpa, passed down to my mom, and then I happily snatched it from her closet. The rings and sunnies are from Forever 21 (of course)! This shows you that you don’t have to spend a ton to find a great ensemble – it is all about using what you have or finding affordable pieces!

Here is a lovely song to end this post!

Avocado Pudding

IMG_6480Lately, I have been looking for different breakfast substitutes, instead of my run of the mill smoothie or avocado toast and egg. Sometimes you just need to mix it up, so this post shows a perfect addition to the breakfast menu. The great thing about it is that it’s not only healthy for you, but takes 5 minutes to make. For all you busy bodies and avocado lovers this treat is for you 🙂

What you’ll need:
♥ 1 Avocado
♥ 1/2 cup of Almond Milk
♥ 1 tablespoon of Brown Sugar or Honey
♥ 2-3 tablespoons of Almonds/Granola (optional)

Blend avocado, milk, sugar, and almonds in blender until smooth. You can add garnish to the top – I like to put chia seeds and coconut flakes! You can eat it right away, or chill it for an hour to give it a refreshing and cool taste.

Add Some Edge to Your Look

IMG_6295This high-low dress by Almost Famous Clothing couldn’t be more appropriate for this rainy and cold LA weather. Not only is it the most perfect fall color, but the slight detail on the front of the dress adds so much dimension. The dress is also long enough to wear without tights, but I just didn’t want to blind you with my ghost legs/freeze my booty off. To give the outfit a bit of an edgier look, I added the leather jacket, boots, and knotted chunky necklace.

Rainy Days

It’s finally feeling like Winter in California! We’ve been getting some good rain, which calls for tights, booties, and trench coats! I also love these big floppy hats because you can get ’em super cheap at stores like Cotton On or Forever 21. They keep your hair dry and make messy, simple hair look fashionable and intentional!

No one likes waking up early when it’s cold and wet outside, which is why this look features my best winter time friend: the simple tunic style dress! I love this dress because it makes getting dressed so quick and easy! This piece by Almost Famous Clothing features a soft fringe collar and is made of thick warm material!

24-Hour Adventure

I cannot believe 2015 is coming to an end! It was a roller-coaster ride of a year, to say the least. Although, I am a bit sad to see 2015 go, I couldn’t be more excited to start fresh and create new memories. I don’t know about all of you, but I am pretty terrible at making New Year’s Resolutions – it’s always the run of the mill “cross things off my bucket list” deal. However, this year is NOT going to be about the bucket list, but more about my F*$# It list! Sometimes you have to plan, but sometimes you just have to wing it! This means more creativity, spontaneity, and IDGAFs! hehe 🙂 Even though life is the longest thing we do, it passes you by in a blink of an eye. Best said by my first love, Nathan Scott (shout out to all the One Tree Hill lovers)…

“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re 17 and planning for someday. And then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And that someday is yesterday. And this is your life.”

There is never a good time, that is why you sometimes just have to live on impulse and spontaneity! The reason I mention all this now, is because my friend and I were hiking a few days ago, and she asked, “you want to go to Palm Springs for a 24 hour adventure?” I said, “sure”. It was the best decision – I ate tons of great food, threw back a couple glasses of great wine, and was surrounded by great company. What is better than that?! Below are some snaps from my 24 hour adventure! Enjoy and cheers to you, the new year, and endless adventures! xoxo

Snow Fashion

beanie and floral dress

Looking cute in the snow is always really difficult, especially if you’re cold blooded like me and just want to wear a thousand layers that include sweat pants and fuzzy socks galore!

But alas, sometimes you actually need to / want to be cute, so this is some great and easy inspiration! If you can get your hands on a vintage long oversized dress, you can sneak some layers underneath, then sport a big cozy cardigan or jacket on top! Add a beanie, some snow boots, and mittens if it’s really cold!

Après Ski Attire

winter inspiration for styleEvery year for the holidays, my family does a big ski trip. We rent a cabin and all stay together, drinking and eating and playing silly games. It’s my favorite time of year! The best is the après-ski… I’m the family mulled wine guru, so keep your eyes out for a recipe coming soon!

Here’s a fun shoot with Isabelle in her après-ski attire… fuzzy jacket, fashion sunglasses, and some old school jeggings. Initially, I made fun of her for the jegging situation but in a weird way she totally pulled them off! Are jeggings coming back? What do you think?

Either way, here she’s owning it and I’m obsessed (and probably stealing them to wear tomorrow when she’s not looking!).

Hope you’re all spending time with friends and family! Happy holidays!!

The Perfect Holiday Salad

broccoli salad

This antioxidant powered little salad is everything you need to balance out the hearty good stuff we really care about this holiday season!

What you’ll need:
♥ Broccoli
♥ Cranberries
♥ Pecans
♥ Fresh parmesan
♥ Olive oil
♥ Agave

How to:
♥ Steam broccoli, let cool (10 mins in the fridge usually works just fine!)
♥ Cook cranberries, let cool (10 mins in the fridge usually works just fine!)
♥ Shred parmesan
♥ Crumble pecans to liking! I usually just keep them whole
♥ Combine 1 part olive oil with 1 part agave for the dressing
♥ Mix it all together and enjoy!

I love this salad because the tanginess of the cranberries pairs really well with the agave dressing. The whole salad is really unconventional but tastes great + healthy, helping you feel less guilty about jumping straight for that pot of mashed potatoes.

Oh, and the red and green colors are pretty festive, am I right? Shop some more of my festive favorites at the bottom of this post!

Thirsty Thursday:
Christmas Color Cranberry Spritzer

IMG_6014Another quick & easy mason jar drink recipe comin’ at ya! This one is holiday inspired by several things I love: seasonal buys like cranberries, Christmas colors, and SOUR things!

It’s so weird, but I randomly ate a kiwi this weekend right after having a lil’ bowl of cranberries (my favorite healthy detox snack during the winter!), and it oddly went together super well! Both are sour + a little bit sweet. Naturally, I immediately thought about how to combine these flavors into a drink!

What you need:
♥ Sparkling water or tonic
♥ Kiwi
♥ Cranberries
♥ Hard alcohol of choice (I like vodka or gin for this!)

The how to:
♥ Cook up your cranberries! I do mine on the stove in bulk batches and then keep them in the fridge as a snack
♥ When your crans are cooled, muddle them together with a little bit of kiwi. I recommend using no more than one slice of kiwi, and avoiding the sinewy white part. Depending on how much you like cranberries, either muddle a full tablespoon, or just scoop up a generous tablespoon of juice. I’m addicted to cranberries, so I do both!
♥ Add the muddle mix to a shot of alc and mix it up! Then, add sparkling water to top it off.
♥ Enjoy!

Oversized Sweaters and Maxi Skirts

DSC_0091Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (i’m still full)! We all know that it is only natural to eat tons on Thanksgiving, so it is important to prep the right outfit for the occasion. The key is to wear something where you don’t need to worry about sucking it in! haha. I went with one of my favorite oversized fall sweaters, and very stretchy maxi. I paired the sweater and maxi with leopard booties that served as my statement piece. I was not only able to dress fashionably fall-ish, but also eat like a crazy woman! Lowkey can’t wait for all the leftovers 😉 DSC_0120DSC_0107 DSC_0114DSC_0124

Fashion Tip Friday:
Treat Yo Self

At home spa night!

Ok ok, so this isn’t really a fashion tip. But to be fair, the most beautiful and fashionable among us seem to radiade a certain sense of calm composure that can make the rest of us crazy. In order to look our best, we need to first take care of our bodies and our minds! So treat yourself! Just do it.

A DIY spa night is so fun because you get to do it on your time, your way. The best part: for the same amount that you’d spend at a spa, you can buy a whole slew of fun products that can be used over and over again.

How to set up your own at home spa night, the easy way!

You gotta have the right ambience! That means lowering the lights, lighting a candle, buying yourself some flowers, and just chillin.

Nothing like some spa jams to lighten and brighten your indulgence! Try my favorite French Jazz playlist!

That’s right, you need a bath to fully relax and recharge! Try some bath salts, oils, and bubbles to make this fun! Bring out rubber ducky, too!

Don’t let anyone take this from you! A little ole me time is just what you need!

Make sure to grab a gentle exfoliator and use on body and face. Skin rejuvenation – YES! This will leave you Bali-vacation glowing.

Just go crazy and get what you like! If you’re new to this, shop some of my favorite products below. Focus on face + body products that are mostly natural and paraben-free. Don’t forget hair! A good hair mask does the trick to keep locks shiny and nourished.

Most importantly, this is about you! There’s no right or wrong. Just make sure you’re in a clutter-free environment that is softly lit and smells amazing (think: lots of candles!). Then, experiement with some new products, lounge in the bath, cover your eyes, and chill. Wine is also a definite option 😘🍷

What to Wear: Winter Formal

I just love winter formals, because they transcend all generations. From middle school, to high school, to college, to adult corporate holiday parties, everyone needs a great look this winter season!

This post features our favorite babe, Halfsies Intern Isabelle, and her friend Piper. Her girlfriends all decided to rock the classic black + red look, with long gowns that show just the right amount of skin.

I really love this approach, because the simple gowns help you to focus on 1. their hot bods 2. their great hair 3. their perfect makeup, and 4. their beautiful corsages!

This look is really a testament to “less is more,” and I think we’ll be seeing lots of this classic simplicity this winter! What will you be wearing!?

Who says your patterns can’t clash?! This Fall is all about mixing it up and flaunting your stripes. Here, I’m wearing my tiger stripe jacket from Bebe, with my Free People distressed striped tee. I’m also layering a denim chambray for an added layer of warmth.

Champagne Gummy Bears

Too much Halloween Candy? We’ve got you covered! Save your favorite sugar candies and turn them into fun little boozy treats at your next girls night!

Our favorite? Gummy bears + champagne! You can also do this with any kind of sugar candy (gummy worms are fun!) and any kind of hard alcohol. We haven’t tried doing this with wine yet, but it’s next on our list!

How to:

♥Fill a small bowl with your candy, then pour alcohol over the candies until they are fully submerged. We used about 3/4 a bottle of champs with a full bag of gummy bears. You’ll be surprised how much gets absorbed!
♥Cover with plastic wrap and allow to absorb for about 4 hours
♥If you’re around, mix occasionally to makes sure the gummies are absorbing to their full potential!

Fashion Tip Friday:
Ways to Style a Long Sleeve Tunic

You may have recently seen Larissa’s Fashion Tip Friday post on the versatility of The Everyday Maxi by NOORNOIR! NoorNoir is a lovely line of basics, that are comfy, high-quality, and can be styled in so many ways! Although the Los Angeles weather hasn’t really shown any signs of Fall, The Classic Light Grey Tunic is a perfect in-between top that could be paired in a variety of ways! Below see my style tips for the grey tunic! Make sure to shop the full NOORNOIR line for similarly inspiring pieces!!

Boots with the Fur

There is nothing that shouts Fall more than boots and a fur vest!! The great thing about a fur vest is that it can dress up or dress down an outfit – it’s incredibly versatile. Since the tunic is more casual, it makes for a perfect match up! The boots serve as a bit of a statement piece, and can also be used to wash away the casual elements. This outfit can be worn day or night! If you want to amp up the look in the evening, add on some plum or dark lip color!!IMG_5728IMG_5751

Denim and Fringe

Fringe is soooo in! At least in my closet! This look is perfect for an everyday wear! The denim provides a casual vibe, where the fringe gives the outfit character. The scarf adds balance, since the tunic has such length and a neutral tone.

Casual Maxi Chic

Get a casual chic outfit by mixing up basics and statement pieces! Tying the tee at your waist creates a chic and effortless look! Feel free to pair the maxi and tunic up with booties, boots or flats! You can also shoulder a jacket with a popped collar to give your outfit a bit more attitude!

Thirsty Thursday:
Not So Bloody Marys

There’s no better way to celebrate Halloween weekend than with the bloodiest, most ghoul-y drink around. If you’re anything like me, you LOVE a good bloody mary because it’s spicy and delicious, not to mention all the fun little treats that can be found alongside your drink as garnish. Celery? Bacon? Little tomatoes? Cheeseburger on a stick?

Just keep it coming please.

In all seriousness, this drink is a super basic twist on your traditional bloody mary. Instead of using bloody mary mix, I used organic carrot juice + 1 shot lemon juice + 1 shot Tito’s (or vodka of your choice!). I added lemon pepper and cayenne pepper because I’m addicted and loveeee that extra spice!

To make these just silly fun, add a stalk of celery and use some stickers to make your own “pumpkin face.” The celery stalk becomes the stem… and there you have it! A fun and childish twist on my favorite adult drink.

Feeling extra festive? Try pairing with my clementine pumpkins!

Sweater Weather

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

I don’t know about all of you, but I am so excited for the weather to start cooling down! I am over this heat! My trip to the mountains was a nice getaway to get a taste of that Fall weather I love! I just want to bring out all my fall clothes – boots, leggings, and oversized sweaters. That is basically what every outfit of mine consists of during the Fall and Winter! It is so comfortable, and there are so many cute oversized sweaters out there to rock!

Here, I am wearing an oversized sweater that I love and purchased for about $10 from Urban Outfitters’ surplus store in Sherman Oaks (check it out if you haven’t), the jacket is another fave from H&M, my knee high boots are Vince Camuto, and the bag is by Rais Case that can also be used as a fanny pack!

Grilled Fish Taco Recipe

DSC_0040Fish Tacos are one of my favorite dishes to make and eat! That being said, I obviously had to put my recipe on here for all of you! I almost didn’t because i was so hungry and just wanted to demolish it instead of taking photos! I didn’t really follow a recipe, I just made it based off of what i usually like to have in my fish tacos and what I had in my fridge! The recipe shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes to make – start to finish. You will be ready to have your own Taco Tuesday party!!

What you’ll need:
♥ Tilapia or Salmon
♥ Tortillas
♥ Tomatoes
♥ Onions
♥ Bell Peppers
♥ Cilantro
♥ Salsa
♥ Avocado

How to:
1. Heat up your pan with 2 tbsp of olive oil
2. Squeeze some lime on your fish, then dress up with your choice of seasoning. You could you use Lemon Pepper, Cumin, Chili Powder, but I like to use the taco seasoning mix from Trader Joe’s! It is the best seasoning and goes great with everything!
3. Grill first side of fish for 4 minutes, when you flip, add in your onions, peppers, tomatoes to grill alongside your fish
4. After another 4 minutes, your veggies and fish should be close to ready – if your fork flakes the fish, that means it is ready
5. Grill your tortillas for 20 seconds, and then you can divide your fish and veggies between the two tortillas
6. Top your taco off with some cilantro, avocado, and salsa

I’m A #MountainMan

kale in mammoth

It’s finally time for beanies and flannels and I couldn’t be happier! This is a fun little shoot that Eryn and I did on our way back from Mammoth. You probably saw her post, super similar to this, which gives you some inspo on how to wear this look but with some more layers! I was really going for something fun, casual, and comfy… but also with the versatility to keep me warm! As much as I wanted to bring you something fashion forward, I feel like this look is my “fall uniform”: leggings, boots, oversized-T, and flannel. If it’s really cold, I’ll switch out the flannel with a leather jacket. The beanie is always a must-do whenever I can make it work.

My favorite thing about this look is the fact that you can recreate it daily throughout the Fall and switch out token pieces so that no one notices! If you wear a green Kale shirt one day, switch it out for a white v-neck the next, and ditch the beanie. Try buttoning your flannel the day after that… and maybe try a jean jacket and a different pair of boots on day 3. Overall, no thought required and grungy chic = winning errrryday.

Fashion Tip Friday:
Layers on Layers on Layers

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetNow the weather is starting to cool down, I can incorporate layering back into my style cycle. Here, I wanted to be comfy because i was preparing myself for a 5 hour car ride back to Los Angeles, but I also wanted to have a slightly mountain preppy, laid back look (IS THAT EVEN A THING? haha). Below are things that I try to consider when going for that layered look!

Tips on Layering

  1. Start with a basic top – Can be solid, neutral, or even striped
  2. The second layer should be semi-light like a chambray, plaid, or cardigan. If you want to add some color to your palette, then this may a perfect opportunity to mix it in and add some depth
-The reason I added chambray and plaid is because I loved the look of the chambray, but I used the plaid to get additional color/dimension to the outfit since my tee and jacket had a very similar tone.
  3. Add a jacket or coat – Try basic colors like camel, black, olive green
  4. From here, you can start adding accessories, whether that be a beanie, necklaces, socks, or bracelets
-I chose to make my grey wool socks to add a little more depth and personality to my look. I loved the idea of layering the socks over my leggings, because they meshed so well with the low-top Chuck Taylors and complemented the tones of the rest of the outfit

Other things:

  1. Length and proportions are key – If you are wearing an A-line dress, top, or feel like a sweater is too frumpy, don’t be afraid to belt it! Tuck those frumpy items into a belt
  2. Don’t be afraid to add in colors, textures, and unique fabrics – It’s best to mix in various type of materials when layering. Often times, using the same type of fabric or textures can leave you shapeless and a little frumpy (favorite word of the moment hehehe)

Now it is your turn! Hope some of my tips help you on your next layering adventure! xoxo

Thirsty Thursday:
Drink More Water

Keeping it simple today my friends! I’m sharing my life mantra: DRINK MORE WATER! I seriously guzzle so much water that I struggle to not use the restroom hourly (TMI? sorry!). It’s been super hot in Cali lately, and I’ve realized that if I’m not drinking enough water I tend to feel hungry, grumpy, and tired by mid-afternoon. These symptoms can so easily be avoided by simply staying hydrated!

Here are some tips for drinking more water:

  1. Drink out of a cute vessel that you love! Mason jars definitely do the trick, so does Kate Spade’s precious new water bottle line. SO silly, but there’s nothing like getting compliments on your drinking vessel. Also, you’re more likely to carry it around with you and actually DRINK WATER!
  2. Flavor your water!! Add fruits, herbs, even vegetables!! I’ve tried asparagus in my water, and it’s strangely delicious! My recent favorites are lemon + grapefruit or blueberry + blackberry. I don’t even use an infuser water bottle – just throw all your fruit together and sometimes you’ll be surprised when you take a gulp and get a little snack.
  3. Also fun: 1/2 coconut water + 1/2 normal water concoctions, or adding chia seeds to your water. Chia swells up and tastes like little bitty bobas!

Flower Girl

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetWe are now at the tail end of the wedding blitz for the year – at least according to my news feed on social media. One thing I did notice, there were a plethora of brides and bridesmaids rockin the floral headpiece, which I adore because i think everyone looks fab wearing one! The floral theme inspired this look – where I am wearing a classic blush lace dress, but added a little dimension and character to it with the headband (that i am obsessed with and found at Urban Outfitters for $5 because they were having a sale on their headbands) and statement necklace. If you have a fall or outdoor/folky wedding to attend, this outfit (minus the booties – I would do blush or neutral heel) would be great! If you are wondering about the semi-waved hair, I got that from putting my hair in braids for a few hours, and a light topping of hair spray.

3. Add chopped onion, salt, garlic, and Jalapenos – Cook until they get really creamy
4. Cook on high for 4 hours – Check every 30 minutes to make sure the beans are covered with water
5. Enjoy with tortillas or chips, and feel free to add a little cilantro!

Mammoth Adventures:
Catch & Release

IMG_3188Does anyone have that one place where you go to release stress and recharge your soul? Close your eyes and think of it. Picturing it? Good! As most of you may know from the 50 times i previously mentioned it, Mammoth is my place, where I catch and release. This past weekend, I adventured to the Eastern Sierras for my birthday(big 2-5) with some of my closest friends. I had such an amazing time, and wish I was still there! If you have never been there, I suggest you calendar some time now!

One of the reasons why this is my place, is because growing up, my family and I would vacation here every summer. However, I always took the importance and beauty of Mammoth for granted. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true! Every time I go there, I feel recharged and tranquil! The perfect song to describe all the feels is ‘Catch & Release’ by Matt Simons. I won’t get too deep into the meaning of the song, but it basically unwraps the feeling of unrest, feeling of movement and change, new beginnings, and wanting to start over – like a very healthy rebirth. Below are some of my favorite photos of the weekend, along with a video that captures all of my heart! Hope you enjoy! P.S. If you are planning on going to Mammoth any time soon, let me know so I can give you a list of my favorite restaurants, hikes, lookouts, and activities!
